Quick tip: How do I arm my system when I am leaving, but others are home?

A customer recently asked us: “What do I do when I leave early in the morning and my wife is still sleeping? I can’t use the away mode, since she’d then set off the motion sensor, but I still want to arm the system.” The answer is simple as always:

  1. On your way out, while your system is off, open your front door.
  2. Press the "home" button on your Keypad -- the alarm will turn on in the home mode and warn you that a door is open. For the moment, that door will not be protected (don't worry, though, there won't be a false alarm).
  3. Now just close the door behind you and the system will then automatically start protecting that door as well.

This way your guests, roommates, and family can continue to move about the house without triggering an alarm, while still being protected. The key to this tip is opening the door first before arming the system. If you open the door after pressing "home", and leave while the Keypad is beeping, the alarm siren will sound about 30 seconds later, leaving you with some unhappy housemates.
