Quick Tip: Wireless Motion Sensors Protect Windows in Home Mode
For those of you who want to leave your Motion Sensors on during home mode to protect large windows or banks of windows, this tip is for you!
When you install your SimpliSafe wireless security system, adhere your Motion Sensor to the ceiling facing downwards one foot from the wall to project a flat plane toward the floor.
This will act as a second layer of security for your burglar alarm. Entry Sensors on your windows will sound your apartment alarm, or home alarm, in the event that your windows are opened. You now have a Motion Sensor positioned to protect your large window, or bank of windows, in the event that someone breaks the glass and enters without opening the window itself.
Make sure that your Motion Sensors' test button is pointed TOWARDS the window if you would like to use this feature during home mode. Otherwise the motion sensor will detect motion within the room. If you happen to wander towards your window and trip the alarm, just be sure to enter your PIN into your Keypad before the alarm sounds.

I just recently installed my system and have not yet decided where to put the motion sensors as I have two dogs (50lbs and 35lbs) and two cats. I am more interested in using the motion sensors at night. Is the ceiling method pet proof? If a cat tried to get in the window thus jostling the shades, would that set it off? Thanks!

It does depend on how far away your cats are from the motion sensor itself. If the cat is going to be within 2 or 3 feet of the sensor there might be a problem. I would suggest putting your system into test mode and trying it out.
Put your cat on the window and put the motion sensor into test mode. Also try and have your dogs run by on the floor, or jump up on the window. If your base station says 'Motion Sensor!' it's time to try something new, perhaps decrease the distance between the sensor and the wall to 6 inches and give it a go.
