Can't decide to wait or not
[Admin Note: The information in this thread is out-dated. For up to date information on the SimpliSafe2 and our new features please visit our Blog]
i see there are a bunch of threads on this, and I get it, there is a bug, its being delayed, but can i at least confirm that if i buy it now and then upgrade... it wouldn't cost me more than waiting (assuming i didn't get robbed while waiting..):
$$$ Buying system now + $$$Upgrade Costs to replace what I bought = $$$$$$ the cost for buying the new system later?
OR would i have saved money by waiting and not having the upgrade process at all?
side note... you really need to publish a realistic time-frame/ETA on this.. its a customer service mistake to let this cat out of the bag and then try to put it back... you could easily turn this around by confirming that folks wont be making a mistake buying now and/or offering free shipping for upgrade customers.. then they are only paying for the new features and not having to pay more than a new customer who has no proven loyalty... you could make a big marketing deal about it too, and probably get more people signed up now while in between than you might otherwise... "Sign up now and get free shipping on the upgrade! Pay no more than a new customer! act fast!"...
I feel like I'm in the same
I feel like I'm in the same boat. I was all set to buy the system and then I read posts hinting at all the new features that will be coming out "soon" but no details on the upgrade path. This raises a lot of questions. Can I buy now and upgrade at a reasonable price? What new features, if any, will be compatible with the current model base station? For example, will fire/co2 monitors work with the current base station model when they become available? Will the cost of monitoring go up and if so, by how much?
SimpliSafe looks great and I really want to go with them. But my confidence is a little shaken when a company continually delays the release of their next generation product. I've seen posts dating back to 2010 that said new features were right around the corner. I would buy a new system right now if I had an idea of what SimpliSafe will be offering in the near future and know that I won't have to essentially pay double the price because I bought right before the new version came out. Until then I'll just have to wait and SimpliSafe will have to hope I don't go with another company.
simpliVilla: I had the same
simpliVilla: I had the same reservations, but could not wait for the updates due to an increase in crimes affecting my complex. So, I bought the current model. Getting "secured" quickly was my ultimate goal. As for cost, it sounds like SimpliSafe will charge the difference between the current base unit and the replacement required to handle the new equipment. With that said, I'd assume that we'll use the box we receive the new equipment in to send back the old stuff.
As for the delays....while I am a bit frustrated, I totally respect SimpliSafe for saying "this product isn't ready...we've been having issues that need resolution". How many other security companies do you know that have this level of openness? Let alone, just releasing a defective product and trapping you into using it with a mandated 3 year contract! They have a vested financial and ethical obligation to produce a product that works right out of the box. I applaud that.
Don't wait. Just buy it. I'm
Don't wait. Just buy it. I'm very happy with decision to buy it now and just wait for the upgrade later. Simplisafe has indicated that current customers would only need to pay for the difference.
I'm very happy with the product and service.
By the way, I'm still getting marketing emails from other alarm systems and I can't get them stop! :)
@westladog Glad to hear that
@westladog
Glad to hear that you went with our system! In regards to those marketing emails: Their should be a way in the email to unsubscribe from their emails.
