security when we're at home with crank windows

Hi,

My husband and I are strongly considering getting Simplisafe, but I have a few questions that hopefully someone can answer for me.

The main reason we want Simplisafe is to protect my kids and myself in our home (both at night and in the day) when my husband is not home. So, although motion detectors would be great for when we're not home, they wouldn't be something I'd want to use when we're home because (1) we'd be constantly setting them off, especially considering that I have 2 small kids who don't sleep through the night, and (2) we want to prevent someone from entering our house by setting off an alarm as they're trying to enter rather than just alerting us that someone has already entered the house (as a motion sensor would do).

We live in a modest ranch house with a large basement. All of the windows on the main level are crank windows that open from the center outwards, and we have a large egress window in the basement that also opens with a crank nob. However, the rest of our basement windows are all the smallish windows that slide open from the middle to the side (thus, only half of the window is actually open at a time).

Anyway, I'm wondering if the SimpliSafe entry sensors would adequately alert us if someone were to try to gain entry to our house through a window. The reason I'm confused is that I don't understand the way burglars would enter a crank window or sliding basement windows. Would they pry open a crank window?...or just break the glass? Would they remove the entire basement window? I guess I'm confused about that, so I'm not really sure where on the windows we would mount the sensors. Could you help explain to me if SimpliSafe is a good option for our windows and also tell me how to mount the sensors?

Thanks so much!

This is what i have done in

This is what i have done in similar case and beleive me i am just one month old using this system.
I placed entry sensors on those windows and doors which i feel prone for entry along with motion sensor across one room. For example i have walkout basement with one big window and one double sliding door. I place one entry sensor on window and other entry sensor on door along with one motion sensor covering both Window and big door. Whenever we are at home, we put the system in HOME mode when motion sensors will not work but if someone tries to open door/window, entry sensor can alert. When we all go out we go out in AWAY mode when all three sensors are working. If someone breaks glass rather than opening window when you are home, you can press PANIC button on remote or keypad or press Panic switch if you have one to alert Dispatch
As far as mounting the sensors are concerned just watch the video on te site and it is as simple as the way it is shown. Infact i am sure you must have used these 3M strips elswhere in your house till now
I liked the system and it is working great for me

@ cbrescoll Thanks for

Thanks for posting! The entry sensors can be installed on crank windows! However, they will only protect the windows from being opened. For this reason, we suggest using motion sensors to protect the home when your not home.
