Upgraded System

[Admin Note: The information in this thread is out-dated. For up to date information on the SimpliSafe2 and our new features please visit our Blog]

I understand some of the hardware will be upgraded by the end of the year or early 2012. The upgrade should include additional hardware and/or features. I just ordered my system--will there be any price consideration/discount for non-compatible equipment? Since I would have used the SimpliSafe alarm system for a short period and wish to upgrade to the new system compatible equipment.

I am wondering if I should wait...send the system back (60 day trial) and wait for the upgraded equipment??

Thanks

Jtag

I just called and spoke to

I just called and spoke to their customer service department. They are expecting the new system to be out by the end of 2011, however, they don't have an exact date.

People who have already purchased the base station and need to upgrade will only be charged the difference. For example, if you bought the base unit today for $100 and then the new unit comes out in December for $150 (I'm making this up, I don't know how much it would really be), you would only have to pay the extra $50 ($150 - $100) to get upgraded. It also sounded like you would get first dibs at some of the equipment (but my guess is that's just a sales pitch. I'd hope they have enough supply that they wouldn't run out immediately).

In addition to the upgraded base station, I got the sense that they would also be offering integrated smoke/CO2 detectors, glass break sensors and video cameras. But I may have misheard something.

It doesn't sound like there is a big downside to buying now and then upgrading in a month or two, other than the inconvenience of swapping items out and reprogramming, if needed. The downside is if you by normal window sensors now and you would have only bought glass break sensors if they had been out (not both).

I still want strobe lights,

I still want strobe lights, not sure why, they just seem like they would be cool.

I 2nd the strobe

i 3rd the strobe light idea.

i 3rd the strobe light idea. They could mimik the skylink wall outlet, where you plug any appliance into the outlet adapter (which is plugged into an outlet itself) and it activates whatever appliance that is plugged in, i.e. strobe light or scary dog sounds (kidding about the dog sounds)

I think Simplisafe has still

I think Simplisafe has still not answered the question posed by Jtag on Nov 10th. Atleast i donot see that on above thread. AMC800 tried to answer but would appreciate comment from SS.

@ Same Thanks for posting!

@ Same

Thanks for posting! The Base Station is the only component current customers will need to upgrade. You will just have to pay the difference in price between what you paid for the original Base Station and the price of the new Base Station. We believe it will be $50-$100 for current customers to upgrade, however, prices have not yet been finalized.

Thanks Ryan but by when we

Thanks Ryan but by when we should expect the new base from now? At least new customers like me should get some consideration.

Yea...this there ANY new info

Yea...this there ANY new info you guys can tell us about the new station? Also, I read somewhere that you guys will be including wireless cameras with the new system. Is this true? If so, is there any info on that at least? Thanks.

@same The new base station

@same

The new base station development is taking a little longer than expected due to the fact that we want to make sure the new base and all of the new sensors are functioning with the highest quality and performance. We are expecting it to be released in the next few months and all current customers will be notified via email when the release date is set.

@ aragland256

The new base station is being developed to handle new sensors such as Fire/Smoke, CO, Flood, and High/Low Temp sensors. The wireless cameras are also in development and will be compatible with the current base station. However, the cameras will be released shortly after the new base station.

Ryan K., I sent an email to customer service but looks like you just answered it; a few months??! Your company has been talking about this new system going on for a year. Contract is up with my current carrier first week of April and thought that wiould be plenty of time. Appears I was wrong.

I am interested in your

I am interested in your system, but may hold of until I can get the upgraded system with fire protection

@ boas1 We apologize for the

@ boas1

We apologize for the uncertain release date of the new system and sensors. SimpliSafe is only going to release equipment that has been tested in all situations and operates at the highest levels. We appreciate the patience and understanding all current and potential customers.

@ pdmarch2002

Upgrading to the new base station needed to include fire sensors will be a seamless upgrade only requiring the payment of a difference in price! You can see if the SimpliSafe system is right for you now as well as have some security in place for the same price as waiting!

Ryan, you should get a raise

Ryan, you should get a raise for quoting the company line as well as you do. Okay, got it, "SimpliSafe is only going to release equipment that has been tested in all situations and operates at the highest levels. We appreciate the patience and understanding all current and potential customers. " How about a estimated release date and a specific reason for the delay? For example: "Licensing issues are still in progress and we now estimate the new system for burglary monitoring will be available by March 15th, other services to follow when available ". Again, note, this is entirely fictitious but would like to plan an orderly transition from my present alarm company to yours. And, no, buying now and upgrading later is not an option for me.
Thank you

@ boas1 Thanks for posting!

@ boas1

Thanks for posting! When a set release date has been established, I will be posting all the appropriate information to this forum as well as others that discuss the new equipment. We appreciate your patience during these final stages of development and an exact release date is coming soon!

Thank you for all your

Thank you for all your comments, suggestions, and especially critiques (they make us better and keep us in touch with you). Most of all—thanks for your patience. Here's an update about the new system.

1) Current Customers will have first dibs on new system inventory.
We will not be releasing it to the general public until the middle of April. We will email current customers a newsletter telling them how to upgrade by the end of March. We will be fulfilling these upgrade orders in batches each day. We expect a large volume of upgrades, so it may take a couple of weeks to receive your system, depending on where your upgrade is in the queue.

2) The New Base Station will offer:

Online Remote Control that will allow you to do a lot of cool stuff from any internet browser on your phone or computer.
-turn your system on and off
-add and remove sensors
-change sensor settings
-name your sensors (you can call them "hallway motion"). We'll include them in your smart alerts.
-name your additional PINs. So your smart alerts will say "system disarmed PIN 2 (Maria).”
-Change and add PINs.
-Change all System settings (like siren duration and entry delays)
Sensor Capacity of 41 sensors
Support up to 3 Keypads

3) Coming Later in 2012
The New Base Station is built to support these additional sensors, which will be arriving later this year.
Freeze and Flood Sensors: Current ETA July 2012
Fire & Carbon Monoxide Sensors: Current ETA October 2012

We know it's been a long time coming. Whenever we create anything, we agonize over how customers will interact with new features. We cater to the many of you that continually demand that we deliver on both simplicity and value. Doing both is a major challenge, but conquering that challenge is exactly how we built this company and it's exactly what we've done with the new system. It just took us longer than we planned. Sorry for the delay - but we think you’ll be happy with the results.

We are as excited as you are for the new system. We've designed and built a fresh online command center for controlling your system remotely. As soon as the new system is launched we're going to get our developers and designers cracking on making a killer app for your Smartphones. 2012 promises to be a very exciting year!

Can you drop me an email or

Can you drop me an email or post here when the new system is available? I am awaiting it with baited breath and all that.

Thanks

Based on the information

Based on the information Melina released, I'm going to hold off my purchase until the end of July 2012. By then the new base unit should be released to new customers and as it appears, from another thread, they should also release the glass-breakage sensors in July.

XJ - I scoured these forums

XJ - I scoured these forums before I bought our system a couple of months ago, and went ahead and pulled the trigger - given the assurances that there'd be no financial loss in holding out for the upgrade.

Our situ, however, is that we're not needing the monitoring or glass-break sensors, so perhaps our decision was made easier. We really love the setup; wifey loves just hitting the keychain for nighttime arming, and since I'm a lazy kinda guy I've gotten into the habit of de-arming the same way in the morning. Said keychain is simply hid out of sight, but within easy reach, in the bedroom.

(We sleep quite a trek from the keypad - so this has been a treat -- with nary a hiccup). You'll love it, whenever you proceed.
