Hands on installation notes
Base station and key pad. our house is a fairly large ranch so i placed these in a fairly central location so that i can hear the door chimes. when we first moved into our house about 2 months ago, before we purchased the system, our 3 year old walked right out the front door and we had no idea. granted it only took seconds for us to notice this, but this is just another example of how this system is helpful. my children will not be able to walk out the door again without our knowing about it.
The front door sensor, then the motion sensor in the living room that leads through to a back door. i tested this so if you walk in from the front or the back, the sensor detects it. if you notice i also replace the dead bolt on the back door with a double keyed lock deadbolt. it is too easy for an intruder to break the glass and reach in to unlock the door without the double key. i call that door the "creepy door" because the only thing back there is a storage room so that part of the house is not used often.
These window sensors gave me some trouble. i had to try several different things and was getting very frustrated. i kept trying the traditional vertical positioning and just could not get it. so as a last resort i tried it horizotaly and to my amazment it worked! chad helped me for quite some time. the window frame has alot of metal in it so our theory is that the metal was causing some kind of interference. sometimes you just have to think out of the box. and of course great simplisafe support! thanks again chad!
This is another one that gave me some trouble. after discovering the horizontal positioning for the other ones, i was just going to do the same thing with this one. well, there was not enough space between the bottom of the window and the sill to do that this time. so after alot of waving around of the sensor i found that it worked being set out just a little further apart. so again, a little playing around and patience and now works fine.
This window sensor worked just fine with traditional positioning. go figure. old weird house i guess.
Motion sensor in the office. alot of computer stuff in this room so obviously wanted it protected.
The other back door off of our den. there is also a motion sensor in this room as well. because of the motion sensors in this area i did not get the window sensors for this room. i am reconsidering this now because we have kids. my husband and i would remember to reset the alarm in the mornings but the kids will not.
The final door sensor goes out to the garage.
