Auxiliary Siren
Posted May 21st, 2010 by FireAppWP
The new auxiliary siren is great! Having a large 2 story house I was concerned that someone breaking in on the lower level might not hear the original siren. There is no missing the new auxiliary siren! I ordered 2 of them, one for the lower lever and one for outside so the neighbors will hear it if I am away. Installation was easy, just the press of a button and enter your pin 3 times. I have had SimpliSafe for the past 1-1/2 years and couldn't be happier with the whole system!

Question! Is there any way
Question! Is there any way to make the siren sound without transmitting an alarm? I wanted to see how effective the new siren was at my neighbors house but didn't want to be sending an alarm to the monitoring center. Thanks!
There's no way to disable
There's no way to disable the alarm transmitting, but you can tell the dispatch center to temporarily disregard alarm signals. The easiest way to do this is to put your system in test mode (Keypad menu option 5). The dispatch center will then call your primary contact phone #. When you answer, tell them that you would like to put your account "on test" for the next 30 minutes, so that they won't respond to alarm signals during that time. Now you can trigger a full alarm and test the siren. After the 30 minutes are up, your normal dispatch protocol will resume automatically and any alarms will be handled normally.

I have just received my security system and have it installed. I have a question about the auxilary siren. Is there a way to set it up so it will chime when a door is opened when the system is off?
Thanks,
Eric
Hi Eric, Sorry for the delay
Hi Eric,
Sorry for the delay in response. The auxiliary siren can't actually be set to chime, however it does broadcast the courtesy beeps to let you know a sensor has been tripped when armed.
Hope this helps!

Hello Dave, I just can't
Hello Dave,
I just can't wait to have my Simplisafe arrived. Anyway, Have you ever thought of intergrating the outdoor siren with the strobe light? I think people would not mind of spending more $ on that feature!
Best,
Huey Salem
Hi Huey, We're looking
Hi Huey,
We're looking forward to getting you all set up too!
Thanks for your suggestion -- it's a nice idea. Since this siren was just recently released I think it will be a little while before additional features get added in, but I will certainly pass that along to the development team.

My siren sometimes chirps
My siren sometimes chirps when I come in, and sometimes it doesnt... is it working right?
By default the siren, like
By default the siren, like the keypad, provides "entry delay beeps" when you enter your home. This is to let you know that, unless you disarm your alarm, it's about to go off. If your siren is not providing these entry delay beeps each time, it could indicate that there's a weak wireless connection between the Base Station and the siren. You might try reposition them to achieve a better connection.

Dave, They are maybe 8 feet
Dave,
They are maybe 8 feet away in connecting rooms... is there anything else you can suggest I try?
It's certainly not too far
It's certainly not too far away (10-20 feet is generally the ideal range, but it's rated all the way up to 100-200 feet). Nonetheless, it could still be a positioning issue depending on the walls and any unusual interference. I'd try moving it a bit and if that doesn't help, let us know and troubleshoot further or try a replacement.

I would think this Auxiliary
I would think this Auxiliary Siren would be very useful if mounted under a soffit, out of view - or away from potential tampering. The outdoor siren will help emergency services find many locations faster :)
Well my Siren finally came,
Well my Siren finally came, and yea umm it's LOUD!!! The only thing that is a bummer is that it doesn't sound when you press the keypad panic button, I'd like that to be the case. However the key chain remote triggers the aux siren.
There are several
There are several improvements that could be made to the system to support people with hearing impairment and also people who have large houses who may have good hearing, but find it difficult to hear the base station in the far reaches of their home. The improvement I would most like to see is added capability in the Auxiliary Siren. I understand this device produces the countdown beeps and the siren sound. If the Auxiliary Siren also produced the door chimes and (ideally) the base station voice prompts, then I would be quick to purchase 2 or 3 of them. These improvements would make your system more suitable for larger homes and a viable choice for the growing portion of our population with hearing loss. The end result would be increased sales of your most expensive individually sold component.
Or very simply a remote
Or very simply a remote speaker to repeat base sounds.
I'd also like to see an
I'd also like to see an external siren with an integrated strobe light. I would think anything more that you can do to call attention to your home would be benefitial.
The deal breaker for me on
The deal breaker for me on the siren honestly is that it does not do the door chimes, to me, that is as important of a feature as when the alarm is armed. If someone comes into my house during the day when i am home, i want to know it anywhere in the house and honestly, the stock alert is not loud enough to be heard throughout. I would purchase two sirens if this feature were added, one for inside, one for the exterior of my house.
I have a auxillary siren.
I have a auxillary siren. When we push away and open the door to leave the siren starts beeping (the primary siren dosn't). We have had the system for about 8 months and this has started in the past 2 months or so. Is this normal?

Thanks for posting! If your siren issues a short series of beeps when you arm or disarm, the siren is sounding the low battery warning. All it needs is four regular AA batteries found underneath the six screws that hold in the battery cover! Be sure to re-sync your siren after by holding the black programming button down firmly on the back of the siren while pressing the OFF button on your keychain remote until the siren emits a short tone, which is the signal that it has been added!
