Magnet Suggestion

Hi..................

I noticed what equipment I have can be permanently attached by using screws and not having to depend on just the double sided tape to secure the items...........except for the magnets. It would really be nice to have a way to screw them to a door frame or door, as an option, and not have to worry above them falling off and intitiating a false alarm. Something I would prefer not to happen.

...................Thanks, Tom

Hi Tom, Thanks for your

Hi Tom,

Thanks for your suggestion. We don't typically see issues with magnets, since they are lightweight and the adhesive is quite strong, but we'll certainly look into adding some screw holes.

I set up SimliSafe about 2

I set up SimliSafe about 2 days ago, and I have already had a magnet fall off. Now I am worried that I will have false alarms once my test period is over. I am looking at ways to install a tab above the magnet so I can secure it to the door with a screw. A small screw above the magnet, when installed at the top of the door, wouldn't be seen by people looking at it since it would be above eye level.

Something like this:

Or if the magnet had a removeable plate like the motion sensors and door sensors, you could put a screw through it.

I have already attached the keypad, motion detectors, and door sensors (except magnets) with a single screw.

@CSP We do now have

@CSP

We do now have screwable magnets available. I'll send you more information to your e-mail.

I too, just recently

I too, just recently installed (5 days ago) my system. On days 2,3 & 4, I had magnets on the entry 4 sensors fall off. I was very frustrated and even more to learn that magnets with screws are now available. It would have been nice to have know this was an option when I ordered my system. Maybe that ought to be explained as an option when ordering and choosing number of entry sensors needed. Anyway what I have done is purchased some old style curtain rod hardware. I screwed them to the places where my 8 entry sensor magnets are installed. Since they are metal the magnet is "attracted" to the bracket. I used the extra adhesive strips to also attach the magnet. The hardware is even the same size as the magnet which makes it look like a factory setup. Just thought this may help.

PS: Total expense was $3.

Okay, that sounds cool! Can

Okay, that sounds cool! Can you share where you purchased the "old style curtain rod hardware" and maybe a part number or, even better, a web site link? That sounds really useful, and I like that it sounds like it blends in very well.

By the way, is it just me, or is the sticky liner on just the magnets A FRICKIN' PAIN to get off without destroying the adhesive tape?!?! :-)

No it is not just you. It is

No it is not just you. It is a PAIN to remove the adhesive from the the magnets ONLY. Everything else comes off just fine.

I too just bought a new

I too just bought a new system - installed it two days ago. Yesterday a magnet fell off one of my door sensors. I too, wish I had been told of the option of having a magnet with a screw on attachment.

I had same problem sensor

I had same problem sensor falling off called and in 7 days had ones that could be screwed on end of problem

Ok, I wrote about my solution

Ok, I wrote about my solution to magnets falling off on another post but this is what I did, and it is a bit
elaborate, but I think it will work. Now keep in mind I have metal doors and vinyl windows so screwing
the magnets in would be just about impossible, I think. ( I already broke one drill bit).
Ok, here's what I did:

1. I used the stronger 3m Command strip adhesive with red backing for the magnets instead
of the stock adhesive Simplisafe gives you. I stuck the magnets to the doors and windows as
usual.

2. I went to Home Depot and bought a 3 foot piece of wood (1/4 in. by 1/4 in. wide or about
the size of the magnets. I cut the wood into many pieces about 1 inch long and painting
white to match my doors and window frames.

3. I glued, using Epoxy glue (very strong glue) a piece of the one inch wood directly BELOW
and directly ABOVE each magnet in effect "sandwiching" the magnet between these little wood
pieces. Next, I applied glue to the magnet to the piece of wood ABOVE and BELOW the magnet,
in effect gluing the magnet to the piece of wood above and below it. I repeated this step to each
window and door that had a magnet. I think, I THINK, the magnets are really stuck onto the doors and
windows now. Its been over a week and to date, nothing has fallen off.

Of course, the price I may pay is it may be next to impossible to remove the magnets if I ever want to.
But after having someone try to kick down my door about a month ago, and not wanting to pay the
stiff $ 35 to $ 40 buck per month for the "other" monitoring service with mandatory contract, this is
working for me.
In addition, the contact sensors (the part with the plastic plate mount)
after sticking the contact sensor plate on the door frames and windows with the 3m Command
strips, I carefully placed a couple drops of Loctite glue around the edges of the plates so as to
avoid the glue coming into contact with the adhesive strips. I waited a day to be sure the glue
was completely dry before sliding the contact sensors (the part with the lithium battery) back
into place.
The whole thing does not look bad at all: my front and back door just look like they have a 3 inch
magnet instead of just the approx. one inch size magnet, and the windows are all hidden since
we normally keep the blinds closed.
In summary, all my contact sensors and magnets are attached to the doors and windows/frames
with 3M Command Strips backed up by powerful glue.
In my community, we get two "free" false alarm responses by the Sherrif but the 3rd false alarm
is 260 dollars and the fine goes even higher for each additional false alarm. Thus, I cannot afford
to play around with magnets falling off.
