Posted October 11th, 2008 by asilva
If you find yourself the victim of identity theft, respond quickly. Start with these 5 steps.
1) Place a fraud alert on your credit reports.
2) Review your credit reports for suspicious activity.
3) Close accounts / cancel cards that have been affected.
4) File a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission.
5) Report the incident to your local police. For more information, visit www.ftc.gov

This is one of the worst
This is one of the worst things that ever happened to me -- I was dealing with the logistics of cleaning it up for months afterwards. My credit is still messed up.

yes, sure you should do this, but it makes getting a new credit card a pain. i lost my wallet once, so i took someone's advice and had the credit agencies setup a fraud alert. now whenever i get a new credit card they put me through a million hoops -- faxing my drivers license and social security card... i guess the only good thing about it is that it keeps from piling up the credit card debt ;)
