Using LANDLINE as Alternative?

So I cant seem to find a clear answer in the Help Section regarding using LANDLINE as an alternative to cellular connection.

My question is this: If we connect our Base station to landline jack, does it work ONLY when the cellular connection fails first or does it solely use the landline once connected and not cellular? I would like to hook up the landline as a "back up" to cellular if it fails wouldnt that be a good idea?

If you do a search on the

If you do a search on the community forums, you will find buried within them replies back from SS with answers to many of your questions. The support forums are not set up well with current information and, unfortunately, you have to play the search game to find useful information here.

The answer is the land line is only used as a backup and the base will always attempt the cell connection first. As always, you should call SS to confirm or wait for them to post a reply here. (Its a weekend and they are out playing golf but that's another issue.) Again, SS, update your support library in a well organized layout and help us support ourselves.

Thanks for posting! As Captain11 states, the land lane will only be used if the cellular signal fails. However, the system has to start up with the land line plugged in. So power down the Base by removing the power cord and a battery from the bottom compartment. Then, in this order, plug in the land line, then the power cord, then the battery. Your system will start back up in Test Mode, press OFF to exit Test Mode, and your land line is ready!

How to Test the Landline,

If the landline connection

If the landline connection does not go thru due to line cut, storm etc. will the base station revert to attempting the cellular connection again?

@ron3426

Thank you for writing in! The base station will always attempt to connect through the cellular signal first, if it cannot, it will then go to the land line back up immediately.

OK so this may be a stupid

OK so this may be a stupid question but here is the order of steps you guys said are needed to install landline:

1. Power down the Base by removing the power cord and a battery from the bottom compartment. Then,
2. in this order, plug in the land line, then the power cord, then the battery.
3. Your system will start back up in Test Mode, press OFF to exit Test Mode, and your land line is ready!

OK so where is the "OFF" button about which you speak and which we must press to exit test mode? Is there a different way to exit test mode? Thank you,

Sam

Will voip phone work as a land line?

@robert.imhoff

Thanks for writing in! Unfortunately, a VOIP line will not work well with our system as a land line. However, if you have a VOIP, typically you will also have high speed internet, and can instead use our broadband adapter to connect! Please let us know if you have any questions!

LandLine Only You keep saying

LandLine Only
You keep saying to plug the phone line into the base station...there are two telephone ports on the base station. Is there a "specific" port to use for the landline...there is no indication as to which port to use. I have tried both ports, but still cannot send a test signal.

We have tested our phone line by making phone calls...both local and long distance.

Help please.

@esmorris62 One jack says

@esmorris62 One jack says "To Wall", the other says "To Phone". You want to connect to the port next to the power plug. Run that to the wall. You also need to do this after completely powering down the base- unplug, remove a battery, plug in phone line, plug base in, replace battery. System will return to Test mode.
You have to power the base down completely to get it to recognize the phone line when it boots back up.

@esmorris62 Thanks for

@esmorris62

Thanks for posting! The base station has two land line ports, so you can still use your phone on the land line! You can plug the phone directly into the port "to phone" and the base station into your land line jack where it says "To Wall". Make sure that you reset your base station (remove the batteries and the power adapter), so it powers on with the land line already in place. If you're having difficulty, we'd be happy to help you troubleshoot his. Please just give us a call!

land line is not an option

land line is not an option with SS3. It uses wi-fi as primary and cellular as backup.

I've just installed an SS

I've just installed an SS Original system. We live in a remote location and the base station cannot connect using its on-board cell phone feature. We don't have an activated landline phone service. Is there a way to have SS Original connect through our wifi system?

@kim.quon If you just

@kim.quon

If you just purchased a system, then you likely have an All New SimpliSafe. You can configure WiFi connectivity through the Menu on your Keypad.

Unfortunately, if it's a SimpliSafe Original, then it does not have the ability to connect to WiFi.

I think kim.quon mentioned

I think kim.quon mentioned twice that it was the original SS2 that was installed. Not that a new SS3 was just purchased. I did see in the other comments that there is a broadband adapter that is available. I had never heard of that before, but perhaps it would work, although not as well as cellular. Perhaps a change in cellular module could help?
