Questions and Answers:

  • I’ve setup my SimpliSafe components at home but I’m still a little confused about how to personalize my alarm settings.

No problem! It's so easy to customize your DIY security system!

The step-by-step SimpliSafe Easy Setup Wizard can be accessed from any computer using your Keychain Remote. Just plug the Keychain Remote into a USB port and the SimpliSafe Easy Setup Wizard will launch and guide you through setting up and using your home security system.

Even if you don't have access to a computer at home, you can still insert your Keychain Remote into any computer (at work, at a friend's house) to access and change your settings. When you are at home and don't have access to a computer, you can still use your Keypad to customize your settings, though you will not have access to all of the features. Press MENU on the Keypad to access the menu system. You can then 1) Change your PIN, 2) Set a dialing prefix, 3) Add components, 4) Remove components, 5) Test your system, or 6) Exit the menu.

Remember, whenever you make any changes to your settings on your computer, make sure you insert your Keychain Remote into your Base Station afterwards to update your system.

  • When I used the SimpliSafe Easy Setup Wizard, my firewall gave me a warning. Is this a problem?
No problem. The SimpliSafe Easy Setup Wizard may cause certain firewalls to provide a warning – this is normal and you should allow the connection to proceed. If you blocked the SimpliSafe.exe file you'll just have to remove the Keychain Remote that came with your burglar alarm and reinsert it. This time do not block the access.
  • I’m not allowed to install software on my computer from work. Can I still use the SimpliSafe Setup Wizard?
Yes, you should still be able to use the Setup Wizard. SimpliSafe does not install any software onto your computer. To access the Setup Wizard to change your system settings simply insert the Keychain Remote into the USB port on your work computer.
  • Can I use a phone in the same jack as my Base Station? If I have DSL, how do I place a filter on my line?

To connect your wireless security system to a home phone, you can use a phone in the jack labeled “PHONE” on your Base Station. Then plug your Base Station phone cord into the wall.

To use a DSL filter, you should plug the filter into your home’s wall jack, the plug a phone cord into the filter and the “TO WALL” jack on your Base Station.

  • What is the SimpliSafe Setup Wizard?
Whenever you insert your Keychain Remote that comes with every SimpliSafe system into a USB port on any computer, the SimpliSafe Setup Wizard will appear on the computer screen. Use this Wizard to install your system or update your settings, such as your PIN, and access your account.

Note: If you have our Interactive Monitoring plan ($24.99/month) you can access your system on SimpliSafe.com or through the SimpliSafe App.

  • Which windows and doors should I put my SimpliSafe Entry Sensors on? How many do I need? How can I order extra Sensors?

We recommend that you place your DIY Security System's Entry Sensors on all doors and windows that could be accessible to an intruder. If you live on an upper floor, this likely includes your front door and a fire escape in the back. If you live on the ground floor, you can use the Motion Sensor to fill-in coverage in a room with lots of windows. You may also want to consider purchasing additional sensors for extra protection.

To order additional sensors, please visit our catalog online here..

  • My repairman is scheduled to visit my home while I’m at work. Will I have to turn off my SimpliSafe System?
No. You can create up to 4 additional PINs (in addition to the duress PIN) for use with the SimpliSafe System. Provide temporary PINs to visitors while keeping your apartment and belongings safe. Once your repairman has finished you can always delete the temporary PIN so he can no longer access your wireless security system.
  • What is a duress PIN?
Your SimpliSafe Do-It-Yourself Security System allows you to use up to 5 PINs, so that you can designate personal PINs for different roommates, a landlord, etc. In addition, you can choose to select a duress PIN. The duress PIN is to be used in the event that you are forced to turn off the alarm against your will. This PIN will turn off the alarm siren, but will still send the alarm signal to the dispatch service, who will immediately dispatch your local authorities.
  • I’m getting lots of false alarms – what could be wrong?

First, try inserting your Keychain Remote into your DIY security system's Base Station to download false alarm data and then into your computer to analyze that data. Follow the recommendations. Alternatively, if you know the cause of the false alarms, try the following:

    1. Entry Sensor: Make sure the sensor and magnet are less than 2 inches apart when the door or window is closed. Make sure both pieces are firmly attached.

    2. Motion Sensor: If you have pets, move the sensor higher up and further out of their reach. Also, make sure the sensor does not face a heater, air conditioner, or direct sunlight.

    3. Panic Button: If a panic button is being pressed accidentally, first try to move it to a different location (perhaps adhere it to a wall rather than setting in on a table). If you do not feel you need it, consider disabling it through the Easy Setup Wizard software on your Keychain Remote (Adjust Settings > Manage Components > select “Disabled” from the "Settings" drop-down box for that component). WARNING: if you do this, the Panic Button will no longer be active for an emergency.

    4. Forgotten PIN: Change your PIN to something easier to remember. Provide others with their own PIN that is easy for them to remember.

  • What happens if I forget my PIN and the alarm goes off?
No problem. If you've tripped your burglar alarm and you subscribe to the Emergency Dispatch Service, you will receive a call from the dispatch center. After the operator has verified your identity (please have your safe word handy), he or she can cancel any alarms for you. Then you can call 800-548-9508 to speak with one of our customer support agents to reset your PIN.
