Outdoor Camera Series 2 is our most advanced wireless outdoor camera yet—with improved night vision, a louder siren, a larger speaker, and microphones that cut through the noise to pick up human voices. When wired using the included power cable, the Outdoor Camera also enables SimpliSafe® Active Guard Outdoor Protection which is available on Pro and Pro Plus monitoring plans. With this service, the AI-powered camera can alert live agents of threats outside your home. Agents can intervene and proactively deter unwanted visitors by speaking to them directly, sounding the built-in siren or using the spotlight—to help prevent crime before it happens. The original outdoor camera does not support SimpliSafe® Active Guard Outdoor Protection.

What is the Outdoor Camera’s resolution?What is the Outdoor Camera’s resolution?

The camera offers video at 1080p. If you have a poor internet connection and/or low upload speeds, you can lower the camera’s resolution in Camera Settings.

Yes. The camera has 2 night vision options which can be selected in the Camera Settings menu:

Standard — With infrared (default) night vision, you’ll be able to see up to 30 feet away at night and your video will appear in black and white.
Spotlight — In spotlight mode, your camera spotlight will turn on in live view and when motion is detected at night. The spotlight illuminates up to 10 feet in front of the camera and allows for color video. If you subscribe to one of our outdoor monitoring plans, the spotlight feature will be disabled so that the monitoring agent can use this feature as a deterrent in the event of suspicious behavior outside your home.

How long does the rechargeable battery last?How long does the rechargeable battery last?

The rechargeable battery is designed to last up to 3 months, depending on settings, installation location and usage.

Can the Outdoor Camera stand alone, or does it only function in tandem with a SimpliSafe system?Can the Outdoor Camera stand alone, or does it only function in tandem with a SimpliSafe system?

The Outdoor Camera is designed to work with our SimpliSafe system and requires a Base Station, Wi-Fi, and the SimpliSafe App to function. With the tap of a button, the Outdoor Camera can be added to our latest SimpliSafe system (Gen 3).

Is the Outdoor Camera Series 2 a replacement for the previous model?Is the Outdoor Camera Series 2 a replacement for the previous model?

No. SimpliSafe continues to support the original Outdoor Camera. However, if you choose a monitoring plan with new SimpliSafe® Active Guard Outdoor Protection, you are required to use the Outdoor Camera Series 2. Contact SimpliSafe for more information.

Does the camera have different Activity Zones?Does the camera have different Activity Zones?

Yes. Custom activity detection zones can be added within the Settings menu in the SimpliSafe App. Tap the zones that you don’t want to receive alerts from, such as high-traffic roads or sidewalks.

When will my Outdoor Camera record and for how long?When will my Outdoor Camera record and for how long?

Recordings are available with select monitoring plans. They will begin automatically when an alarm is triggered. Recordings can also occur if there is movement in front of the camera, even if your system is in the off state, and will record for a minimum of 10 seconds. Motion detection settings can be adjusted within camera settings in the SimpliSafe® App.

Who has access to livestreams and saved videos?Who has access to livestreams and saved videos?

Our cameras are designed to protect you from intruders, not to intrude on your private life. Only users who are registered to the SimpliSafe account linked to the Outdoor Camera will have access to its livestream and saved videos. However, you can explicitly opt in to SimpliSafe’s video verification dispatch service. This means that in the event of a triggered alarm event, our professional monitoring center is able to view specific alarm-based footage for up to one hour after the alarm event so they can help customers get priority attention from first responders.* *Available with select Professional Monitoring plans

Do live agents monitor all of my cameras with outdoor monitoring?Do live agents monitor all of my cameras with outdoor monitoring?

No. We only monitor location(s) and camera(s) that you choose when your system is armed — home or away — within your monitoring plan hours. You can change these settings for a location anytime in the settings menu of your SimpliSafe® App. Active Guard Outdoor monitoring is supported by the Outdoor Camera Series 2 and Video Doorbell Pro, and up to 3 cameras, one of which must be a wired Outdoor Camera Series 2.

The safety, privacy, and security of our customers is an enormous responsibility and one that we take very seriously. Our cameras are designed to protect our customers from intruders, not to intrude on their private lives. Unlike many competitive products, we run any AI algorithms on the devices themselves, as opposed to in the Cloud or by any third parties. This ensures that sensitive information remains with SimpliSafe and is part of our ongoing commitment to safeguarding the privacy of our customers. Additionally, video or audio may only be accessed without permission when required by law, such as to comply with a valid subpoena or court order, and then only by limited personnel.

Can I use the SimpliSafe Solar Panel to enable Active Guard Outdoor Protection?Can I use the SimpliSafe Solar Panel to enable Active Guard Outdoor Protection?

No. To use Active Guard Outdoor Protection the Outdoor Camera Series 2 must be powered using the included outdoor power cable. While the solar panel is a great option for keeping the camera’s built-in battery charged, it does not provide enough stable power to support Active Guard Outdoor Protection.

Do live monitoring agents interact with people on my property?Do live monitoring agents interact with people on my property?

Monitoring agents are trained to observe any person on your property and potentially engage them if they notice suspicious behavior. When you subscribe to a monitoring plan with SimpliSafe Active Guard Outdoor Protection and your system is armed within plan hours, agents are able to interact with people outside of your home. Where permitted by law, you can use the SimpliSafe App to save familiar faces of friends and family for agents to ignore. If the person isnt recognized, an agent may engage to assess any possible threat. The agent can watch, assist or deter people by using the outdoor camera’s two-way communication and/or siren. For everyday activity such as deliveries, the agent will monitor the delivery person across your enrolled cameras but will not engage unless they observe something suspicious.

SimpliSafe offers an Anti-Theft guarantee for subscribers on Pro and Pro Plus monitoring plans (residential and business plans).
