For best performance, the doorbell should be installed 4 ft high using your existing doorbell wiring. If necessary, use the included mounting adapter to improve your field of view.

SimpliSafe offers two installation options: Set it up yourself and professional installation, and both provide the same, advanced whole home protection. The Video Doorbell is designed to work with our SimpliSafe system (Gen 3) and requires a Base Station, Wi-Fi, and the SimpliSafe App to function.

If the camera picks up motion, will it trigger the alarm?If the camera picks up motion, will it trigger the alarm?

No. The Video Doorbell’s motion detection will only trigger notifications through the app. Upon motion, the Video Doorbell will record for 10 seconds by default, and it will continue recording if there is sustained motion in front of it (in All Motion mode). With select plans and in People Only mode, the camera will only detect and trigger a notification if a person is detected and will continue to record as long as they are still in frame. Recordings and person/package detection are available with select monitoring plans. AI can make mistakes, and we will continually work to improve accuracy.

Will this doorbell ring my existing chime?Will this doorbell ring my existing chime?

Yes. With a mechanical chime, Video Doorbell Series 2 rings it directly. With a digital chime, your Base Station chimes instead. Either way, you'll get a fast alert on your phone.

Yes. You control your recordings, and we protect them every step of the way.

You control your recordings. Choose when your camera records through permissions in the SimpliSafe® App.
We don't share without cause. We won't hand over footage to law enforcement unless legally required—for example, to comply with a warrant or court order.
Your video is encrypted. Camera feeds and recordings are encrypted and stored securely.
Recordings don't stick around. They're automatically deleted after 30 days on Self, Core, Pro, and Pro Plus plans. Basic and Standard plans don't store recordings at all.
Agents see only what they need. Monitoring agents can view your camera only during an active alarm or SimpliSafe® Active Guard Outdoor Protection event—access ends the moment the event does.

Our monitoring plans support up to 10 total cameras, current or past generation. Of the 10, only 3 outdoor cameras and/or doorbells can use SimpliSafe® Active Guard Outdoor Protection.

Yes. Video Doorbell Series 2 replaces the previous Video Doorbell Pro and now enables SimpliSafe® Active Guard Outdoor Protection — a monitoring service included with Pro and Pro Plus plans, that helps stop crime before it starts. It also adds enhanced motion detection and 2-way audio, plus 2K video resolution and a built-in siren. SimpliSafe® will continue to support the original Video Doorbell Pro.
