Your privacy is our promise.

More security shouldn’t mean less privacy.

SimpliSafe® was founded to help make your home and your life more secure. Nearly 20 years later, that's still what we do. And it's all we do.

We know that keeping your trust matters. That's why we protect your privacy just as vigilantly as your home and family. Period.

Unlike many of the main home security providers, SimpliSafe isn’t owned by or partnered with Big Tech. We’re an independent home security company that believes in your right to control your data. Our only business is your safety.

That’s why when you set up your system, we give you choices on how your system data is shared and used. It’s how we can help ensure you get the products, services and security you want.

Adjusting SimpliCam

"I love everything about this system. We wanted a system that doesn’t just sell our data to others, I can tell you that SimpliSafe® meets all expectations.”

Mohammed Z, SimpliSafe® Customer

Privacy by design

We've thought long and hard about our privacy features — so you don't have to.

While we engineer your system to provide advanced security features and design it to look great in any home, we've thought just as carefully about how to integrate privacy features into every component we create.

Consider these subtle but powerful privacy features.

  • All of our indoor cameras have a mechanical shutter that is closed by default when your system is not armed, and audibly clicks open and closed to help ensure you know when they are in use.

  • When your system is armed (“Home” or “Away”) you can control the shutter behavior based on your preferences.

  • Our outdoor cameras allow you to set motion zones so you can control which areas will or will not trigger recordings.

  • On any equipment with two-way audio, you can choose to disable the microphone and speaker at any time, for any reason.

All of this means that you have security when you need it, and privacy when you want it.

You control your data

Your data belongs to you. Not to anyone else.

We improve our products and services by collecting certain system data, but we never lose sight of the fact that it’s your data, and you should have control and transparency about how and where it's used. That's why:

  • You must opt in to monitoring services to allow agents to see your camera footage, such as video verification or intruder intervention.

  • When you install and use your cameras, you have the ability to manage AI-based features, such as motion and person detection.

  • You can delete video recordings from your timeline whenever you want using the mobile app.

  • Monitoring agents can only access video content from inside your home during an alarm event—and that’s if (and only if) you’ve opted into specific monitoring services.

  • We won’t share any of your personal information or camera footage with law enforcement unless required by law (specifically, to comply with a warrant or court order).

Whatever your privacy preferences, they're easy to manage within the SimpliSafe® App.

A higher standard

When it comes to your privacy, "good enough" is never good enough.

Our full Privacy Policy spells out all the ways we protect your privacy. We constantly update it to not only comply with federal and state regulations, but to exceed those expectations.

Simply put, we do all we can to ensure that you are in control of your system data.
