Privacy by design
We've thought long and hard about our privacy features — so you don't have to.
While we engineer your system to provide advanced security features and design it to look great in any home, we've thought just as carefully about how to integrate privacy features into every component we create.
Consider these subtle but powerful privacy features.
All of our indoor cameras have a mechanical shutter that is closed by default when your system is not armed, and audibly clicks open and closed to help ensure you know when your cameras are in use. When the shutter is closed your camera is not watching or listening.
When your system is armed (“Home” or “Away” mode) you can control the shutter and recording behavior based on your preferences.
Our cameras allow you to set motion zones so you can control which areas will or will not trigger recordings.
All of this means that you have security when you need it, and privacy when you want it.
You control your data
Your data belongs to you. Not to anyone else.
We improve our products and services by collecting certain system data, but we never lose sight of the fact that it’s your data, and you should have control and transparency about how and where it's used. That's why:
You can opt-in or opt-out to monitoring services to allow agents to see your camera footage, such as video verification, intruder intervention, or SimpliSafe® Active Guard Outdoor Protection.
You have the ability to manage AI-based camera features to calibrate camera sensitivity and enable person detection to help reduce unwanted motion alerts.
After initial setup, you can manage your system data and change your preferences by going to Device Settings, Camera Settings, Location Settings, and Notification Settings.
We generate and retain video recordings for 30 days by default and only for plans that include video recording capabilities.
You can remove video recordings from your timeline whenever you want using the mobile app.
Monitoring agents can only access cameras and limited video content during an alarm event or Active Guard engagement—and that’s if (and only if) you’ve opted into specific monitoring services.
We encrypt and protect your camera feeds and video recordings.
We won’t share camera footage with law enforcement unless required by law (e.g. to comply with a warrant or court order).
