This Motion Sensor Trick Keeps Pet Owners Happy

Posted August 1st, 2013 by SimpliSafe

Pet owners like me know how difficult it can be to find pet-friendly home security. And I have three animals in my house—my two kids, plus one big dog!

Kidding aside, SimpliSafe is a great home security system for pet owners. It uses more precise motion sensors, so it doesn’t usually detect smaller pets, unless they get really close. But here’s how to make sure your pets don’t trigger your alarms...

  1. Place your motion sensor about 4-5 feet above ground level—make sure it’s out of reach of your pets.

  2. Turn it upside down—your pets won’t trigger your sensors again.

The science behind our pet-friendly trick

Pet owners love this trick. Normally, the Motion Sensor looks straight out and down towards the ground. When you turn the sensor upside down, it looks straight ahead and up instead. This way, your pet can't trigger it, but an intruder will.

How to determine if your pets are setting off your alarms

When you first set up your system, you can easily determine whether or not you will need this trick. Just place your alarm in test mode to see if your pets will trigger your alarms:

  1. Press the Menu button on your Keypad

  2. Enter your PIN

  3. Scroll right using the Home button until you reach option 5, Test mode

  4. Enter Test Mode by pressing the Away button
