The Outdoor Camera requires a Base Station, Keypad, Wi-Fi, and the SimpliSafe App to function. With the tap of a button, the Outdoor Camera can be added to our latest SimpliSafe system (Gen 3). 

The rechargeable battery is designed to last up to 3 months per charge, depending on settings, installation location and usage. The camera also comes with a 25ft outdoor power cable that will keep your camera fully powered at all times and enables optional Active Guard Outdoor Protection, which is a monitoring service available on Pro and Pro Plus monitoring plans. 

You have three resolution choices: 1080p, 720p and 480p. The default setting is 1080p. This can be adjusted in the Camera Settings. You may choose a lower resolution to use less bandwidth if you have a poor internet connection and/or low upload speeds. 

Yes. The camera has 2 night vision options which can be selected in the Camera Settings menu:

• Standard — With infrared (default) night vision, you’ll be able to see up to 30 feet away at night and your video will appear in black and white.

• Spotlight — In spotlight mode, your camera spotlight will turn on in live view and when motion is detected at night. The spotlight illuminates up to 10 feet in front of the camera and allows for color video. If you subscribe to one of our outdoor monitoring plans, the spotlight feature will be disabled so that the monitoring agent can use this feature as a deterrent in the event of suspicious behavior outside your home.

Recordings are available with select monitoring plans. They will begin automatically when an alarm is triggered. Recordings can also occur if there is movement in front of the camera, even if your system is in the off state, and will record for a minimum of 10 seconds. Motion detection settings can be adjusted within camera settings in the SimpliSafe^® App.

No. Even if you don't subscribe to a plan, you can watch the live video feed at any time and the camera can be used to alert you of motion. Recording functionality is only available with select monitoring plans.

SimpliSafe's new Active Guard Outdoor Protection introduces a revolutionary double-layer approach to home security, combining the power of artificial intelligence (AI) technology with a team of expert monitoring professionals to help prevent crime before it happens. The service, which builds upon our recently launched intruder intervention, extends the technology to outside the home. 

Now, when your system is armed during plan hours and motion is detected outside, agents can act to deter crimes in progress. They can see and speak directly to potential intruders in real time using the live feed and 2-way audio, and trigger camera sirens — all while capturing video evidence of what's happening.

SimpliSafe® Active Guard Outdoor Protection and intruder intervention are available on select professional monitoring plans only. These services are available through select camera hardware and require service opt in.

Only users who are registered to the SimpliSafe account linked to the Outdoor Camera will have access to its livestream and saved videos.

However, you can explicitly opt in to SimpliSafe’s video verification dispatch service. This means that in the event of a triggered alarm event, our professional monitoring center is able to view specific alarm-based footage for up to one hour after the alarm event so they can help customers get priority attention from first responders.*

The safety, privacy, and security of our customers is an enormous responsibility and one that we take very seriously. Our cameras are designed to protect our customers from intruders, not to intrude on their private lives. 

Unlike many competitive products, we don't run any AI algorithms in the Cloud or via third parties – only on the devices themselves. This ensures that sensitive information remains with SimpliSafe and is part of our ongoing commitment to safeguarding the privacy of our customers.

Additionally, video or audio may only be accessed without permission when required by law, such as to comply with a valid subpoena or court order, and then only by limited personnel.

Small businesses can use the Outdoor camera. For high traffic areas, a power cable (included) or extra battery pack (sold separately) is recommended. Note that Pro or Pro Plus plans with Active Guard Outdoor Protection are designed for residential use only. Businesses should subscribe to Standard or Core for professional monitoring.
