The SimpliSafe® Smoke & CO Alarm Listener is a device that pairs with your existing UL-certified residential smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. When your detectors sound an alarm, the Listener "hears" it and triggers your SimpliSafe® system, enabling 24/7 professional monitoring. A professional monitoring plan is required for SimpliSafe® agents to request emergency dispatch. The device itself will still trigger your SimpliSafe® system and send app notifications without a plan, but agents will not request dispatch.
How many Alarm Listeners do I need?How many Alarm Listeners do I need?
For homes with hardwired smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, typically only one Alarm Listener is needed as it can monitor the entire home. We recommend placing it alongside the detector that’s closest to your Base Station.
For homes with battery-powered detectors, place an Alarm Listener 4 inches from each smoke and/or CO detector you wish to be monitored. For these situations, consider swapping a few of your existing detectors for our Smoke & CO Detector instead. These devices also enable rapid emergency response (with a professional monitoring plan) in addition to sensing the presence of smoke and CO gas.
If you’re not sure what type of detectors you have, remove a detector from its bracket to check for wires. If the wires are connected to the detector, it’s likely hardwired. To be certain, test the detector to hear if all of your home’s detectors sound.

UL-certified detectors will be marked on the underside or inside the casing.
