Questions and Answers:

  • I’ve setup my SimpliSafe components at home but I’m still a little confused about how to personalize my alarm settings.

No problem! It's so easy to customize your DIY security system!

The step-by-step SimpliSafe Easy Setup Wizard can be accessed from any computer using your Keychain Remote. Just plug the Keychain Remote into a USB port and the SimpliSafe Easy Setup Wizard will launch and guide you through setting up and using your home security system.

Even if you don't have access to a computer at home, you can still insert your Keychain Remote into any computer (at work, at a friend's house) to access and change your settings. When you are at home and don't have access to a computer, you can still use your Keypad to customize your settings, though you will not have access to all of the features. Press MENU on the Keypad to access the menu system. You can then 1) Change your PIN, 2) Set a dialing prefix, 3) Add components, 4) Remove components, 5) Test your system, or 6) Exit the menu.

Remember, whenever you make any changes to your settings on your computer, make sure you insert your Keychain Remote into your Base Station afterwards to update your system.

  • Does it matter if I put the Panic Button on the wall or can I set it on a shelf/table? How about the Motion Sensor?

You can place the Panic Button anywhere in your home, but we recommend you use the adhesive tape. This will help make sure that it does not get moved by accident so you’ll always know where it is in an emergency.

You can set the Motion Sensor for your burglar alarm on a shelf or adhere it to a wall, as long as it is in a safe place and faces the room that you want to cover.

  • What is the SimpliSafe Setup Wizard?
Whenever you insert your Keychain Remote that comes with every SimpliSafe system into a USB port on any computer, the SimpliSafe Setup Wizard will appear on the computer screen. Use this Wizard to install your system or update your settings, such as your PIN, and access your account.

Note: If you have our Interactive Monitoring plan ($24.99/month) you can access your system on SimpliSafe.com or through the SimpliSafe App.

  • How do I remove the adhesive tape from the Entry Sensor magnet (not the Sensor itself)?
The Entry Sensor magnet uses a slightly different adhesive than the other sensors. Remove the magnet by rotating the magnet slowly until the adhesive loosens and you can pull it off the wall. You can also purchase from us screwable magnets to use with your burglar alarm.
  • Should I put the Entry Sensors on the top or side of the door?
When installing your wireless security system, either placement is fine as long as the magnet is within 2 inches of the Sensor when the door is closed and greater than 2 inches away from the Sensor when the door is open.
  • Which windows and doors should I put my SimpliSafe Entry Sensors on? How many do I need? How can I order extra Sensors?

We recommend that you place your DIY Security System's Entry Sensors on all doors and windows that could be accessible to an intruder. If you live on an upper floor, this likely includes your front door and a fire escape in the back. If you live on the ground floor, you can use the Motion Sensor to fill-in coverage in a room with lots of windows. You may also want to consider purchasing additional sensors for extra protection.

To order additional sensors, please visit our catalog online here..

  • I just lost my Keychain Remote and I’m worried that someone can get into my apartment and disarm the alarm. What do I do?

No problem. You can remove your Keychain Remote from the system so that it can’t be used to turn off your alarm. Then you can order a replacement Keychain Remote.

To remove the Keychain Remote from your do-it-yourself security system, press MENU on your Keypad. If prompted, enter your master PIN to access the menu system. Press 4 twice, then use the HOME (right arrow) key to scroll through your components until you see the Keychain Remote you want to remove. Then press AWAY (enter icon) twice. You will see and hear a confirmation that the component was removed.

To order a new Keychain Remote, just visit get SimpliSafe and choose "Catalog" or call SimpliSafe at 800-548-9508. Until your new Keychain Remote arrives, you can continue to operate your system by using the Keypad and your PIN.

  • First 60 Days (Onboarding) - Follow Up
Your Keychain Remote has a built-in USB device that lets you easily and securely access your alarm settings and your SimpliSafe account from any computer. Just plug the Keychain Remote into a USB port and the SimpliSafe Easy Setup Wizard will launch and guide you through setting up and using your do-it-yourself security system.
  • I can’t hear the Base Station announcements. What should I do?
It could also be a problem with your system's speaker. To test this, plug in the Base Station in the main room and see if you can hear the prompts. You can also increase the volume of the voice prompts or enable/disable the voice prompts by using the SimpliSafe website or app (Interactive Monitoring ($24.99/month) or you can use the SimpliSafe Setup Wizard on your Keychain remote.
  • How do I navigate the Keypad menu system?
You can use your do-it-yourself security system's Keypad menu at anytime to change your PIN, add a dialing prefix, add or remove components and test your system. To adjust your settings by using the Keypad menu, first press the menu button button, located at the bottom left of the Keypad. On the Keypad screen, you will see three icons: left arrow, enter sign and right arrow. To use these icons, press the button below each. Use the off buttonand home button buttons to scroll forward and back through the different options listed at the top of the Keypad screen: 1) Change your PIN, 2) Set a dialing prefix, 3) Add components, 4) Remove components, 5) Test your system, and 6) Exit the menu.
